20 Under 25: Kaneesha Heath

Winning ways: Kaneesha, a senior at the University of Tampa, has won several awards in campus filmfests, including Best Drama for Breaking Point, an AT&T Golden Mobile Award for Contagious (for films that make use of a cellphone), and an award for best set design for Hell. Her longest film, Snakes in the Grass, was screened at this spring's Gasparilla International Film Festival.
Worldly ways: A self-described "military brat," she says on her website that "I've lived in places like Germany, Japan, and Italy. Sometimes when you go, the grass is greener on the other side, but then you leave and you miss it like crazy. I wear my heart on my sleeves, being honest and open is an asset to many things, one of them filmmaking. I plan to share my love for life, the hope of change, and sadness of truth to everyone with every project I work on."

The Gasparilla International Film Festival opens in Tampa today and runs through March 27 with film categories like Focus on Florida, North American Narrative, Cuban Sidebar and Fun & Fear.
New this year is a category with Spartan appeal: The University of Tampa Student Showcase. Films from four students and two alumni will be shown March 26 at 2:30 p.m. at the Ybor City Muvico. Those participating include Kaneesha Heath ’12, Matt Rossetti ’11, Dennis Hooten ’11, Michael Stevenson ’11, Aasem Alhajhussein ’10 and Clint Mouriño’10.
Senior Named One of 20 Under 25

Kaneesha Heath ’12 was recently named one of Creative Loafing newspaper’s “20 Under 25,” an article highlighting promising upcoming young artists in Tampa Bay.
“It was surprising when they chose me because the amount of personal projects I have done is so few, I didn't think I deserved it,” said Heath. “When I take into account how much work I have done organizing others and helping them succeed, it kind of made me happy.”
